Greeting

While on holiday in Diani Beach, Kenya I decided to explore the lovely coastal riparian forest garden. Macro photography makes you slow down and teleports one to another parallel realm. The daily grind of all the small critters around us is fascinating and with some patience you get lucky. This little fellow a " Red Tree Ant" (Oecophylla longinoda) or Weaver Ant was busy patrolling the palm leaves. when it noticed me it turned and went into the pose pictured. Its confidence was amazing to watch as it clearly felt like it was saying bring it on.

Colour

Phelsuma Laticuada/ Gold dust day gecko the dominant species of day gecko found on the Island of Anjouan. They are quite fearless and love anything sweet. So beware when having toast with jam as they will come all the way on to your plate to have a lick. I really like the way their skin is like little beads of colour.

Layered Green

A Fly of unknown species to me rests on a leaf during the early morning. This photo was taken in Ireland during the summer when there are quite a lot of cool macro subjects abound.

Hairy Giant

As the exploration of the miniature world continues there are some finds that excite me more than others. This jumping spider is from the family Hyllus the largest of the jumping spiders. I find it cool that this spider is so hairy almost woolly, and yet it was well over 35 degrees Celsius when I photographed it hunting in the undergrowth of the coastal leaf litter.

Red

A living Painting that is found all over the place from gardens to the tops of mountains. The Gold Dust Day gecko stares me down on my garden path.

Spike

Sharp angles and a yellow tipped predator at rest. Maybe a scene on a far flung planet, yet these wonder are hidden right here among us.

Balance

A Chameleon balances masterfully on the edge of a swaying papaya leaf in the breeze. As if a metaphor for the struggles in life to achieve such balance is a dream for many.

Peek a Boo

An Adanson's jumping spider watches me through the lens. Jumping spider when they cooperate are such great subjects for macro photography. I find they have such character and their large forward pointing eyes transmit their curiosity.
